Pausing, but not silent: Honoring our work and protecting our legacy

This is not an easy announcement.

It is not one we ever envisioned making. But it is a decision grounded in care, strategy, and a deep sense of responsibility to our people, our mission, and our legacy.

How We Got Here

Provide’s work has always been rooted in meeting the moment with integrity, courage, and precision.

Over the years, we’ve navigated an evolving and often hostile reproductive health landscape. We’ve scaled our programs, deepened our partnerships, and sharpened our ability to respond quickly and boldly to shifting conditions.

But even the most nimble and resilient organizations are not immune to structural realities.

Over the past year, we began experiencing significant and unpredictable disruptions to our funding streams. Commitments were withdrawn. Foundational priorities shifted. Political pressure influenced philanthropic giving in ways that deprioritized core reproductive access work, especially work that, like ours, operates at the intersection of abortion, public health, and systems-level change.

Simultaneously, we remained committed to protecting our team and mission. We initiated a strategic review, implemented cost-saving measures to reduce spending, and worked diligently to raise additional funds. We sought rapid response grants, delayed hiring, and shifted internal operations, all while continuing to deliver high-impact programming with care.

But by mid-year, it became clear: the gap was too wide. The projected revenue could not sustain our staffing, programming, and core operations beyond the summer.

Rather than allow the organization to erode slowly or compromise on our values, we decided to pause intentionally.

This pause allows us to:

  • Provide severance and support for our staff,
  • Protect the integrity of our programs and partnerships,
  • Preserve the possibility of a future return or evolution of Provide’s work, and
  • Honor the legacy we have built with you—our community.

We Started This Year Ready to Lead

Provide didn’t begin 2025 in retreat; it started with rigor.

Our team set bold intentions to step forward as courageous and collaborative thought leaders ready to engage health and social service providers in advancing abortion access and interrupting the criminalization of pregnant people.

We centered the belief that even in the most challenging environments, we could still expand impact, elevate visibility, and contribute meaningfully to the broader reproductive health, rights, and justice (RHRJ) movement.

That work never stopped.

Through every training delivered, every provider supported, and every system touched, we moved with a sense of urgency and care. Our team led with grace and brilliance. Our programs remained powerful. And our vision stayed true to building a movement that endures beyond the current moment, beyond the fray of news cycles, legislative battles, or election years.

We’ve always been about more than survival; we’ve been about sustainability, culture change, and community.

Why This Work Still Matters

Provide’s core mission is to equip healthcare and social service providers, especially those working with marginalized communities, to be agents of change within their systems. These providers serve people who are often already navigating deep inequities in access to care and support.

Without Provide, those gaps become even wider, and for some, access may disappear altogether.

What we offered wasn’t just education. It was transformation. We trained providers to show up with compassion, equipped them to advocate inside institutions, and helped normalize abortion as essential healthcare within systems that have long stigmatized it.

That work cannot disappear. It’s too important.

We’re already exploring how Provide’s frameworks, values, and materials can continue to live on, whether through partnerships, preservation, or a future relaunch.

This pause, while difficult, is not an end. It is a pivot, a deep breath, a space for something else to grow.

Protecting our legacy: Where We Go From Here

In the weeks ahead, we’ll continue wrapping up our operations with the same care and clarity we’ve always led with. Our top priority has been our staff, and we’ve worked to ensure they are supported through this transition.

We’ll also be sharing more about:

  • Legacy stewardship: how our work can continue in new forms
  • Opportunities to stay connected
  • Philanthropic stewardship: opportunities for our reimagined programming
  • Honoring and archiving Provide’s contributions to the field

To our funders, partners, providers, and communities: We appreciate you.

Thank you for believing in us, for walking with us, and for being part of this story. The work of transformation is never finished, and it doesn’t belong to any one organization.

We remain part of a collective effort to affirm the dignity, autonomy, and humanity of every person. That work continues through all of us.

With deep gratitude,
💛 The Provide Team
